Widely considered the ultimate tree for Bonsai, Junipers are beautiful and stately evergreen conifers that form majestic specimens often lasting hundreds of years. It is so popular that it's not unusual to have entire collections consisting solely of Juniper Bonsais. Juniperus chinensis is one of the top species used in the Japanese art of bonsai, referred to as "Shimpaku."

Interesting: "Juniper berries", which are actually the cones of the juniper tree, are used as a spice and flavouring. It is one of the primary ingredients used to flavour Gin.
In India, local people in Lahaul Valley present juniper leaves to their deities as a folk tradition. It is also useful as a folk remedy for pains and aches, as well as epilepsy and asthma.

Light: Place the tree outside, year-round, in a bright location with lots of sunlight.

Water: Juniper bonsai require regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist. However, they cannot tolerate being waterlogged. As a general rule, allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings (but avoid letting it dry out completely), then water deeply.
