Statement: Tamarindus - Large Weeping Style
The tamarind is a long-lived, medium-growth tree. The tamarind flowers (although inconspicuously), with red and yellow elongated flowers. Flowers are 2.5 cm (1 in) wide, five-petalled, borne in small racemes, and yellow with orange or red streaks. Buds are pink as the four sepals are pink and are lost when the flower blooms.
The fruit has a fleshy, juicy, acidic pulp. The fruit is best described as sweet and sour in taste, and is high in tartaric acid, sugar, B vitamins, and, unusually for a fruit, calcium.
Interesting: The fruit pulp of the tamarind tree is edible and is been cherished throughout the world fort its sweet-tart flavour. It is used in various dishes, from sweet to savoury, predominantly used in south-Indian cooking.
CARE GUIDE:
Light: The ideal indoor location is on a window sill facing south. Four to six hours of sunlight per day should suffice.
Water: The Tamarind is not drought tolerant. If Tamarind wilts, irreversible foliage damage occurs. Regular watering is necessary for best results especially if it is in a bonsai pot.
SIZE:
Approx 92 cms ( Each plant is unique; size and shape fluctuate by season so all measurements are approximate)
